Dentistry for Kids
Children should be seen by a dentist by the age of 1 for a short
examination. The first visit is meant to allow the child to have a
positive relationship with the dentist, check for any problems
with the child’s dental development, and mainly educate the
parents about oral health care for their child.
Children will usually have their first dental X-rays taken by age
5 or 6, though some children may require X-rays to be taken
earlier if the child is at a higher risk for dental decay. X-rays
also, allow dentists to see if a child’s adult teeth are growing
correctly and to determine if there is abnormal development or
possibly no development of permanent teeth.
